This study reviews literature on the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Academic Libraries in Nigeria. Integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in academic libraries has become a global trend, offering innovative solutions for enhancing information management, user engagement, and operational efficiency. Content analysis methodology was used to review literature. Various search engines including Alta Vista, Yahoo and Google were used to search for relevant studies carried out between 2014 and 2024 on the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Academic Libraries in Nigeria. The literature review also retrieved sources from books, journals (print) and online databases such as Library and Information Science Abstract (LISA), Science Direct, EBSCOHOST, Emerald, Africa Journal Online (AJO) and Google Scholar. Purposive sampling was used for identifying literature on integration of Artificial Intelligence in academic libraries in Nigeria. Forty-Five (45) publications were selected. Integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Academic Libraries identified in the literature include: definition, applications, strategies for adoption, and the challenges impeding its implementation, the study adopts a theoretical approach, drawing insights from existing literature to analyze the current state of AI in academic libraries globally and within Nigeria. The paper identifies key strategies for overcoming barriers, such as capacity-building initiatives, improved funding mechanisms, and policy development, to promote AI integration in academic libraries. However, in the context of Nigerian academic libraries, integration of AI in academic libraries remains limited due to various challenges, including inadequate infrastructure, insufficient funding, and a lack of skilled personnel. The paper concludes that despite changes brought by Artificial Intelligence (AI), academic libraries in Nigeria are still lagging behind in transforming library services with digital contents. The paper recommended that a collaborative efforts to bridge the gap in leveraging AI technologies to improve library services.
